What else you can do ...
There will be a Georgia Milestones Parent Meeting on Tuesday, April 24 at 5:00 here at EJES. There will be a Title One meeting just prior to it at 4:30. Want to see sample items of what might be on the Milestones (i.e., GMAS)? Check out these images. Keep in mind these are SAMPLE items. The math problems are complete, and could be used for practice. I did not include the reading passages for the ELA questions. These questions are intended to show what the questions could be like. There are also sample items posted HERE under the "Got Help?" section of the parent page. Still want more? Ask your child about Milestones Mania! Even though our class challenge closes on Friday, April 13, these activities will still be available for you to practice. The DOE also has detailed and content-specific concepts and skills are provided for each grade, content area, and course in the Achievement Level Descriptors. (scroll toward bottom of page) Testing begins Monday, April 30.
Spring break is officially here! And you'll never guess where I am!!! I'm sitting in my classroom on a beautiful Saturday morning, trying to get caught up from the craziness of this past awesome week! When we return to school we will be getting ready for Milestones and MAP testing. Here are some excellent tools to help prepare students:
March Dates: The March Eagle Events Calendar is posted under the schedule tab. Middle School Transition Conferences March 19 and March 28. Students competed in a Seuss STEM challenge. Inspired by Horton Hatches The Egg, students had to construct a "nest" to protect an egg from a large book! Turns out some of their designs weren't all they were CRACKED up to be ... get it? Difference Makers Fair is such a huge part of the school year. I'm always a little sad when the craziness is over. The messy classroom. The frantic deadlines. The push to fit in all the other academic content. But we do it! Look closely. These pictures are truly pictures of our future social change leaders, innovators, and scientists. #ProudTeacher Fifth grade teachers have been working with EJMS staff to schedule 30 minute advisement sessions to discuss the planned placement for your child in math, language arts, and science/social studies for the 2018-19 school year. At these advisement sessions, your child’s current teacher and an EJMS representative will be present. It is imperative for you to attend, so you may address questions, concerns, or offer suggestions in reference to your child’s placement.
Two school days are being dedicated to these important conferences. With adequate time given, please make arrangements to attend your assigned conference. *This transition advisement replaces the 3rd Quarter Parent/Teacher Conference requirement. Want to sign up now? These are 20 of the songs that YOU selected as YOUR theme songs! Do you think you could match the song to your classmate? Three of the songs match to more than one person, and two songs could not be included.
A lot is happening! Here's a snapshot to fill in the blank of that omnipresent question that so few students ever answer ... "What did you do in school today?"
2/14 - Class Valentine exchange (these should be simple store-bought or homemade cards appropriate for any classmate). A list of names will be sent out via Remind 101 message. Class Dojo has super cute FREE Valentines that can be printed at home! Click HERE. 2/23 - DPA five paragraph essay due 2/26 - School Project Achievement (i.e., DPA presentations) Young Georgia Authors!
Huss Class brought home FIRST, SECOND, and THIRD place for 5th Grade YGA!
Congratulations, Girls!
Map testing - Jan 10, 11, and 12 (we will begin at 8 am each morning) Classroom Spelling Bee - Jan 16 (winner and alternate will advance to the School Bee on January 22 @ 1 pm) STEM Night - Jan 25 Parent Conferences - Jan 22 through Feb 2 I realized several years ago that the best way to celebrate your birthday is by being ridiculous about it. I surprise my students with doughnuts for MY birthday. Often singing to myself or behaving in other embarrassing ways. It makes the kids smile, and that makes me smile. A few years ago students started asking me what I wanted for my birthday. How does one answer that? I don't want stuff. I'm not a stuff kind of person. I even banned the word "stuff" in our ELA classes! So ... I began requesting poetry, songs, and interpretive dances from my students. It's always hilarious to see their responses. Which usually fall somewhere between "Is she serious?" and hysterical laughter. This year, the students mostly fell on the "hysterical laughter" end of the spectrum. They knew it was an opportunity to be silly and have fun. And that, friends, is what birthdays are for. Duty free lunch is a reward for teachers. We plan, grade papers, take much needed breaks, and get ready for the rest of the day. But on my birthday, we all had lunch together in the classroom. And let's just say memories were made. How is it December already?!? So much has been happening! I hope your kiddos have been coming home with elaborate tales of Immigration Simulations, Difference Makers Fair ideas, and Tuck Everlasting conversations. I'm excited that our December Scholastic Bookclubs order has been extended until 12/9/17! There are some amazing deals and awesome gift ideas! Order at www.scholastic.com/bookslubs Code: M4H8T As we wrap up 2017, I'd like to have a gift exchange in class. At the beginning of the year each student filled out an "All about me" biography cube. The cubes were not supposed to include names. What I would like to do is have each student select a cube, and then purchase (no more than $2-3) or make a small gift for the owner of the cube. For example, the cube could indicate that the student loves reading. Your child could make a set of bookmarks for him/her. The idea is not to spend money, but to be truly thoughtful about the mystery recipient. We will have our Holiday celebration on Tuesday, December 19. Want to join us or help out?
