Angelina and Brenna worked on one of the math portions of their Engineering Log book today. These second grade girls learned about profit and multiples of ten in a creative and imaginative way. What better way to learn than to pretend to buy their supplies?! At the end of playing store, the girls had determined profits multiplied by 10, 100, and even 1,000. Way to work those mighty math minds, girls!

All inventions and presentations must be complete by March 6. Our system fair for school winners will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014.
Please check out the LINKS section of our site. The bottom row of icons is dedicated to engineering! The kids were given 20 straws, five paper cups, 36 inches of masking tape, and one pair of scissors. The task? Build a self supporting structure that will hold your ping-pong ball as high as possible. Some failed. Some succeeded. They all tried, and they all had fun! Congratulations to Rylee and Victoria, 5th Grade, whose structure was a whopping 38" tall! Our second place goes to Gavin and Cale. They used only 11 straws made it all the way to 37". Wow! Welcome to 2014! We're starting the year off right at MES. Our school Engineering Fair for 2nd through 5th grade Gifted students will be on Thursday, March 6 at our school PTO meeting. I can't wait to see what ideas the kids come up with! Be sure to check in with your child about his/her Design Process! More details coming soon! |
