Thank you to all the parents that visited our Living Wax Museum today! It was a HUGE success! The kids each portrayed a "Then" (turn of the 20th century inventor or innovator) and their "Now" counterpart. And they rocked it! Way to go, kids! You are all stars!!
Did you ask your child what they did at school today? Were you greeted with a shrug of the shoulders and a garbled "Nothing"? Well, probably not today ... why? Because Chemistry is crazy cool! Thanks, Dr. Snook! Check out the awesomeness from today here.
One of the characters in our class novel has contracted typhoid fever. To enrich this lesson, and provide a better understanding of the disease, students researched the bacterial infection. Then ... they attempted to destroy the world!!! (cue maniacal laughter)
Actually, they journaled over the technological innovations we have today, as opposed to what the character had in 1856. The destroying the world part came in the form of the app "Infected" (similar to the android app "Plague Inc."). Students had to create a disease that mimicked typhoid as closely as possible. Talk about engaged learners!
We’ve had an exciting start to our 2016-17 school year and have many reasons to celebrate and share with you at our first quarter parent-teacher conferences. We appreciate your support this year as we have transitioned to a new schedule for our 2nd-5th grade students. We are enjoying the longer blocks of instructional that allow us to plan special projects and learning opportunities for our students.
Because of this schedule change, many students have more than one teacher this year, which will affect how our parent conferences are scheduled. To give you the opportunity to meet all of your child’s teachers this year, we will use the following schedule for parent conferences: 1st Quarter: Meet with your child’s Language Arts Teacher 2nd Quarter: Meet with your child’s Math Teacher End of Year: Project Showcase led by your child’s IDEA Lab (Science/SS) Teacher Our teachers at each grade level work and plan as a team and will communicate with your child’s other teachers to find out if there is specific information that they feel needs to be shared at the conference as well. Additionally, if you have questions or concerns about your child’s performance in math, science, or social studies this quarter, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher of that subject to schedule a meeting. Report cards will be distributed at the scheduled conference. SIGN UP HERE!!! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090944ADAF2EA7FE3-quarter Fun Run Celebration days:
Mon - Ninja Tribe Pride; Tues - Crazy Hair; Wed - Tropical Island Day; Thurs - Wacky Tacky Day; Fri - FUN RUN (wear Fun Run t-shirts)!
